Structural Remediation – Tumut Commercial Building

Project Overview

Garry Gillespie Constructions was engaged to complete steel structural remediation involving repairing damaged or corroded steel structures to restore their strength and longevity, addressing issues like corrosion.

A dilapidation survey of a Tumut Commercial Building identified significant issues with the subfloor of structural steel elements. The neighbouring photos show the state of the steel structures, and the need for remediation.

Method

All steelwork was cleaned of existing surface rust by power brushing to clean solid surface streel work to be painted with a rust inhibitor. The cleaned steel was then given 2 coats of ZINC RICH PAINT. Severly rusted hold down nuts and washers were replaced, and where instructed by the engineer, hold down bolts replaced with M20 Galvanised Chemset Anchors (Epxoy REO502 + 250mm embedment).

Ventilation

In the context of construction, ventilation refers to the intentional introduction of fresh, outdoor air into a building or space to maintain good air quality and remove pollutants (dust).

GGC utilised Mechanical Ventilation to proactively address ventilation issues during the remediation works. After the addition of 4 outlets in the rear blockwork wall, the team used supply and exhaust fans to actively move air in and out of a building during construction.

High Praise

All tasks were delivered punctually, ensuring minimal disruption live business operations. The project was executed with a strong emphasis on safety and quality, with all stakeholders engaged throughout the process.
