Newcrest Mining Ltd Cadia East Expansion Project

Project Overview

Garry Gillespie Constructions was engaged to install a variety of inground services at Newcrest Mining’s Cadia East project.

Cadia

Cadia is one of Australia’s largest gold mining operations. Newcrest works closely with local community groups and government agencies to provide ongoing infrastructure and support in the local government areas. Working within a live mine site, the project team diligently adhered to all protocols. Planned works were clearly communicated daily and necessary permits approved and active.

Scope

GGC ‘s scope also included:

  • Upgrade and extension of the sites fire water ring main
  • Construction of five HV/LV MCC and switch rooms
  • Specialist contractor fire rating works
  • HV power was required to be encased in lean mix concrete
  • Structural and mechanical grouting of both above ground and underground equipment and concrete retaining walls.

Working in a Live Mine Site

The above service run was 120m long and consisted of 10 power conduits, 1 comms and a HDPE fire water line. Installation was completed in a clearly delineated work area with all approved equipment. The inducted workforce diligently completed the works in 2.5 days to mitigate downtime in the mine site. See adjacent photo demonstrating the detailed works.

After successful installation of the inground services, GGC the below additional scopes for the client:

  • FRP: concrete retaining wall

All scope was delivered within the planned timeline and budget, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations. The project was executed with a strong emphasis on safety and environmental stewardship, with all stakeholders engaged throughout the process.
